Life doesn’t come with an instruction manual. I wish it did – particularly when I found myself confronted with the many complex challenges that come with aging parents and relatives. There was little, if any, information out there to help me navigate the health, financial, and general life issues that my loved ones were dealing with. Just to make things even trickier, I was handling all of this from a great distance!
The truth is that as a generation, we’re facing challenges that simply did not exist when we were growing up. The world is a different place, and these changes are playing out now when our loved ones need elder care.
It used to be common for families to live close to each other. Your mother might live across town — but it was unlikely that she lived across the country!
